Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore, stretching majestically between Italy and Switzerland, is a destination that perfectly combines breathtaking landscapes, cultural landmarks, and serene waters. The lake’s mild climate allows for vibrant gardens, lush greenery, and exotic plants, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Beyond its natural allure, the surrounding areas are steeped in history and charm, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.
The Borromean Islands and Isola dei Pescatori

These islands are a must-visit for anyone exploring Lake Maggiore. Isola Bella captivates with its magnificent baroque palace and terraced gardens, where peacocks roam freely and fountains glisten in the sunlight. Isola Madre, known for its tranquil atmosphere, features a botanical garden with rare plants and centuries-old trees, creating a serene escape. Meanwhile, Isola dei Pescatori (Fishermen’s Island) exudes authenticity with its narrow streets, traditional houses, and lively local eateries. Strolling through its charming village feels like stepping back in time.
The enchanting villages of lake maggiore
The Piedmontese coast of Lake Maggiore offers many fascinating villages to visit. They are often home to events, fairs, village festivals, and festivals, especially during the summer.
Feriolo
Feriolo, a few kilometers from Stresa, looks like a small nativity scene on the lake. In the evening, when the lights of the town are reflected on the water, the atmosphere becomes magical.
Cannero Riviera and Cannobio
Cannero Riviera and Cannobio are instead in the highest part of the lake. The first is set in a natural inlet that makes it similar to a seaside village, in particular, due to the dense Mediterranean vegetation favored by the climate. The remains of the castles in the middle of the lake are also suggestive. Cannobio, on the other hand, is a border town, the last one before Switzerland. Follow the descents, the stairways, and the narrow alleys to reach the lakefront, which, with its colorful houses, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages on Lake Maggiore.
Pallanza gardens
Situated in Verbania, the botanical gardens of Villa Taranto are a feast for the senses. These meticulously maintained gardens are home to thousands of plant species from around the globe. Depending on the season, you can witness stunning displays such as the tulip festival in spring or the vibrant autumn foliage. It’s a dream location for photographers, botanists, and anyone who loves to be surrounded by nature’s finest.
Mottarone adventures

The mountain of Mottarone (1491 m), with its gentle, grassy slopes, divides Lake Maggiore from Lake Orta and offers one of the most breathtaking views of the lakes and the distant Alps.
The sight is unique: an uninterrupted 360° panorama from the Ligurian Apennines and the Maritime Alps to the Monte Rosa massif, the Monviso and the high peaks of Switzerland, across the Po Plain, and the unequaled spectacle of seven lakes (Orta, Maggiore, Mergozzo, Biandronno, Varese, Monate, Comabbio).
In the winter months, you can also ski on Mottarone. For the rest of the year, you can still enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views, while the sportier ones can challenge the paths of Adventure Park, which is suitable for children and adults.
Lake Orta

Lake Orta, smaller and less frequented than Lake Maggiore, is a place of unparalleled charm. Its tranquil waters and picturesque villages create a setting straight out of a fairytale. The medieval town of Orta San Giulio enchants visitors with its cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and lively Piazza Motta. You can step into another world just a short boat ride away, on the tiny island of Orta San Giulio. The ancient basilica and the “Way of Silence” path around the island make it a spiritual and meditative retreat. This lake is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway, especially during sunrise or sunset. And… I can freeze this moment with a photo if you want!
Lake Mergozzo

Lake Mergozzo is a slight stretch of water that was once part of Lake Maggiore. Go there for a walk or a swim. Its waters are among the cleanest in Italy, thanks to the ban on motorized navigation. If you want to stop for something to eat, we recommend the “La Fugascina restaurant”, which takes its name from the typical sweet of Mergozzo, which the owners have been preparing in the oven of the same name for sixty years. If the occasion is special or you want to treat yourself to a gourmet dinner, chef Marco Sacco awaits you at the Piccolo Lago with his team and two Michelin stars.
